The AQ women's hockey team took to the ice for the first time since December 4 tonight (Jan. 21) to take on the University of Michigan Wolverines at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, Michigan. Both teams had several opportunities, but nothing came to fruition as the game ended 0-0 after a five-minute overtime period couldn't break the tie.
Neither team was able to generate much of an offense in the first period. Aquinas put nine shots on target and the Wolverines put 10 on target, but neither team was able to capitalize. Michigan had a powerplay opportunity at the end of the first period, but the Saints killed it off easily.
The Wolverines had two powerplays and a four-on-four change in the second period, but
Kadynce Romijn kept the puck out of the net, keeping 11 more shots out of the net. The Saints put seven shots on target, but failed to score in the second period, keeping the score at 0-0.
The third period was the same story, with both team putting a handful of shots on target, yet neither managing to score. The game went into overtime with the score still at zeros. AQ put one shot on net and the Wolverines had six. Both teams kept the puck out of the net, resulting in a 0-0 tie.
Aquinas is now 6-8-2 on the year after the low-scoring affair.
Romijn was a perfect 30-for-30 on saves after getting her first start in the net after a couple of months out.
The Saints will be back in action tomorrow (Jan. 22) for a game against GVSU at 12:30 PM. The game will again be played at Centre Ice Arena.
