The AQ women's hockey team traveled to Adrian, Michigan yesterday (Jan. 30) to take on the Adrian Bulldogs. This was the second game of the series between the Saints and the Bulldogs. The first game, played at home on Saturday (Jan. 29), resulted in a 6-0 victory in favor of Adrian. Yesterday's road match was much of the same story, as Adrian came away with a 5-0 victory over Aquinas. AQ is now 6-12-2 with a 3-6-1 CCWHA record.
The Bulldogs started the game with an early goal, scoring at 17:12 in the first period. AQ would get a couple of powerplay opportunities in the first period, but nothing would come of them. Neither side managed to score again in the first period with
Kadynce Romijn keeping a plethora of shots out of the net. Both sides would enter the first intermission with a 1-0 game in favor of Adrian.
The Bulldogs broke through again early in the second period. At 15:28, Adrian expanded the lead to 2-0. AQ would get a powerplay chance just moments later, but it would be Adrian who scored on the powerplay for Aquinas. The Bulldogs picked up a short-handed goal at 13:25 to make the score 3-0. AQ would get one last powerplay opportunity to end the second period but failed to capitalize with the score remaining 3-0.
The third period was much of the same. Adrian managed to add two more goals to its total before the final horn, making the score 5-0. Aquinas managed to walk out of the game without committing a single penalty, a first of the season.
Adrian outshot Aquinas by a total of 73-10. Romijn saved 68 of the 73 shots that came her way, good for a 93.2% save percentage.
Aquinas returns to action this upcoming Friday (Feb. 4) to take on UM-Dearborn. The game has a puck drop set for 7:30 and will take place at Southside Ice Arena.
