Hannah Crum’s Hat Trick Ties Saints All-Time Goal Record, AQ Tops Madonna

Senior forward Crum scores seventh hat trick en route to 61st career goal

Grand Rapids, Mich. — The all-time goal scorer for the Aquinas women's soccer team was held to one goal through the team's first eight games this season. Then, in the span of four days, fifth-year senior forward Hannah Crum found her scoring boots and notched four goals.

Three of them came Saturday (Oct. 1) in a 5-1 home WHAC win over Madonna. It marked Crum's seventh career hat trick but, more importantly, gave her 61 career goals to tie her with men's soccer Hall of Famer Jeo Pantoja (2007-10) for the most goals ever scored in Aquinas' soccer history.

With the convincing victory, the No. 16-ranked Saints remained perfect in conference play (3-0) while improving to 7-2-1 overall. Madonna (6-4, 2-1 WHAC) suffered its first WHAC defeat. The Saints are now 13-0-1 in their last 14 matches at the AQ Athletic Field.

Aquinas had three different goal scorers in the first half with Crum, Sydney Shenk and Hannah Bowling. Plus, three more players provided the assists: Jenna Konwerski, Macy Hollingsworth and Laia Cunill. A complete team effort.

Three minutes before halftime, Madonna scored its lone goal to break the Saints' three-match shutout streak. AQ's defense went 333 straight minutes without giving up a goal before Vitoria Sia got the Crusaders to halftime down 3-1.

Crum scored twice in the second half to collect her hat trick. Shenk added an assist to go with her previous goal. Crum now leads the team this season with five goals, followed by Shenk, Cunill and Bowling each with three. In total, 11 different Saints have found the back of the net this year.

Aquinas outshot Madonna 19-8 (13-7 shots on target). Saints freshman goalkeeper Kayla Shuk made six saves. AQ had four more corner kicks (6-2) and one more foul (11-10).

The Saints now hit the road for a pair of away WHAC matches next week against Rochester on Wednesday (Oct. 5) and then at UNOH on Saturday (Oct. 8). Both matches are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
