Rochester Hills, Mich. — Playing indoors inside the Michigan Stars Sports Center, the No. 16-ranked Aquinas women's soccer team kept its winning streak going with a 5-0 road win over Rochester on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 5).
The Saints (8-2-1, 4-0) have now won five straight while scoring three or more goals in four consecutive games. The Saints offense was firing on all cylinders Wednesday setting a new-season high with 40 shots and 22 shots on target.
Aquinas averaged a shot every two minutes and 15 seconds. Whereas, Rochester (6-3-1, 2-2 WHAC) was held to three shots (zero on target) for the entirety of the match.
Senior forward
Hannah Bowling scored twice for the Saints in the 33rd and 46th minutes. She is now tied with
Hannah Crum for the most goals this season with five each.
Macy Hollingsworth assisted the first goal to get the Saints on the scoreboard.
Another senior forward,
Katelyn Kahael, made it 2-0 Aquinas right before halftime. It marked her first goal of the season and ninth of her AQ career. She became the 12th different goal scorer for the Saints this season. Â
Bowling eliminated any doubts that the Saints would slow down coming out of halftime when she scored her second goal under a minute into the second half.
Then, in the 61st minute,
Maeva Lichtensteiger kept the scoring party going with her third goal of the season.
Sydney Shenk was credited with the assist, giving her three helpers on the season.
Shenk led the team with seven shots followed by Lichtensteiger, Crum and Bowling with six shots apiece.
AQ freshman goalkeeper
Kayla Shuk watched her stout defense completely shutdown the Warriors. Shuk earned her sixth shutout of the season — tied for third-most in the NAIA — without having to make a single save.Â
The Saints are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 8) at UNOH in Lima, Ohio. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
