Byron Center, Mich. – After a shootout thriller late last night, (Oct. 28) the men's hockey team was back at the Southside Ice Arena for their second matchup of the series against Purdue Northwest. The Saints were able to best the Pride by a score of 8–4 behind two hat tricks from Darren Johnson and Dylan Rumpke.

Aquinas improves to 6-4 overall this season and 3-3 in conference play.

The Pride would surprise AQ early on, again taking an early lead like yesterday, when they scored at 19:10. The Saints wouldn't take kindly to this though as they went on a three-goal scoring spree. The first of these goals came not even a minute after the Pride's first goal. At 18:19, Dylan Rumpke found the back of when he was assisted by Christian Look. Rumpke would continue in his scoring ways later in the period when he was again assisted by Look and Matt Denhartigh. The Saints final goal of the period came from senior, Darren Johnson when he found himself in front of the net. His goal at 8:14 put the Saints up 3-1. Purdue Northwest would sneak in another goal before the end of the period at 6:37 to send the two teams to the locker room with a score of 3-2 Aquinas.

To start the second period, senior Brendan McCattty scored his first goal as a Saint. He did so at 17:54 after being assisted by Rumpke and Danny Barry on the play. The Pride would switch out their goalie after this goal. PNW struck next at 8:46 in the period on a powerplay, but Darren Johnson wouldn't tolerate this for long as he scored 31 seconds later in four-on-four skating. He was fed by Mason Stewart and Max Johnston on the other side of the ice. The Pride stayed close to AQ as they scored again at 5:50 to put them within one. This was before Rumpke answered the call once again with his third goal in the contest earning him a hat trick. The goal came at 4:14 and Look was there once again on the assist along with Danny Barry. The Saints would lead 6-4 going into the third period.

The third period saw the Saints put the icing on the cake with two unanswered goals. The first goal came from freshman, Gustov Ostman when he found the back of the net at 3:18. He was assisted on the play by Darren Johnson and graduate student Brandon Rozema. Darren Johnson would then get himself a hat trick with 25 seconds remaining in the game on a power play goal. He saw assists from Stewart and McCatty.

Max Johnston anchored the Saints in goal for sixty minutes tonight and faced 48 shots. He was able to save 44 of those shots.

Aquinas will see the ice again next Friday (Nov. 4) when they host Lawrence Tech. The #14 Blue Devils and #17 Saints will face off at 8:00 PM
