Winning Streak Grows to Six as Saints Knock Off UNOH

Aquinas scores once in each half to pick up road WHAC win

Lima, Ohio — Shoot from distance and there's a chance one might just go in. That's what junior forward Sydney Shenk did Saturday afternoon (Oct. 8) and was rewarded with her fourth goal of the season coming late in the first half.

Sophomore forward Maeva Lichtensteiger added one more in the second half, assisted by Shenk, to lift the No. 16-ranked Aquinas women's soccer team to a 2-0 road WHAC win over the University of Northwestern Ohio at Racer Stadium in Lima, Ohio.

The Saints (9-2-1, 5-0 WHAC) have now won four straight over the Racers (4-6-2, 2-1-2 WHAC) since the 2020-21 season. The last time Aquinas won its first five conference games to start the season was the 2020-21 campaign when they put together a flawless 9-0 record during the conference regular season.

Shenk broke a scoreless deadlock on Saturday in the 40th minute on a strike from roughly 30 yards out. The UNOH goalkeeper got apiece of it but the ball still found the back of the net. Shenk then helped the Saints double their lead 13 minutes into the second half when she picked out Lichtensteiger, who also scored her fourth goal of the season.

Shenk has scored a point, registering a goal and/or an assist, in each of the Saints' last five games.

Aquinas outshot UNOH on Saturday 11-3 but only six shots were on target (5-1 in AQ's favor). Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Shuk made one save to earn her six shutout of the season.

After a pair of road games, the Saints return home to face rival Cornerstone on Wednesday (Oct. 12) at the AQ Athletic Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
