The Aquinas cheer team competed this past Thursday (Feb. 10) and Friday (Feb. 11) down in New Orleans, Louisiana against some stiff competition. The Saints first took on the UT-Southern Firehawks in a one-on-one dual the first day and then turned around to compete in the Battle in the Big Easy the next day. Both events were hosted by XU-Louisiana in its convention center.
AQ went first in the dual versus UTS and scored a 68.32, which is the fourth highest score of this season. The Firehawks went next and ended up winning the dual with a score of 81.63. Of the five cheer duals that happened on Thursday, the Saints came out with the fifth highest score of the night. XU-Louisiana and UT-Southern both competed in two duals and had the four better scores than Aquinas.
The next day in the Battle in the Big Easy, AQ competed against seven other teams including Dillard, Keiser, Loyola (N.O.), Montreat, Talladega, XU-Louisiana, and Williams Baptist. The Saints had nearly an identical score to their first day, finishing with a 68.08.
Host XU-Louisiana had scores above 90 in every routine throughout the couple days and ended up winning the competition with a 95.03. The next closest score was a 75.16 that was put down by Loyola (N.O.) who took second. Williams Baptist finished just 1.62 points ahead of Aquinas in third with a score of 69.70. Montreat (51.20), Keiser (50.40), Dillard (46.86), and Talladega (41.73) rounded out the rest of the standings.
Aquinas next competes at the WHAC Championships on Saturday (Feb. 19) with Lourdes hosting in Sylvania, Ohio and the competition starting at 11:00 AM.
