Adrian, Mich. – The Aquinas College cheer team continued to build momentum during the second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) meet of the season, battling through adversity to earn a fifth-place finish with a score of 60.17.
Competing against a strong field, the Saints placed behind Lourdes (84.85), Madonna (75.55), Siena Heights (70.90), and Cornerstone (64.97), while finishing ahead of Rochester Christian (58.87).
After a challenging week marked by illness, injuries, and lineup changes, Aquinas showed resilience and determination on the mat. With several athletes unavailable, the team was forced to adjust its routine in a short amount of time, making their performance even more impressive.
"I am so proud of this team," said head coach Sue Smith. "We had a tough week with sickness, injuries, and every imaginable hardship. With several athletes out we had to change the entire routine in a short time, but the team stepped up and did a great job. The lessons they learned about perseverance and staying positive in a time of difficulty is so valuable. They hit the mat today with enthusiasm and determination and did amazing. This team is such a blessing and I am so thankful for every athlete."
Lillian Houtteman also highlighted the team's adaptability and commitment to growth.
"This team is quick to adapt to all situations and that was shown today," said Houtteman. "We left it all out on the mat and will continue to improve throughout the season."
Although the Saints dropped one spot from the previous week's standings, the performance reflected the team's character and growth in the face of adversity. Aquinas continues to build chemistry and confidence as the season progresses.
