Highland Heights, KY - The Aquinas College cheer and STUNT programs delivered a weekend filled with progress and new beginnings as cheer competed at its third Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference competition on Saturday before STUNT returned to action Sunday at Northern Kentucky University.
Cheer Continues to Build Momentum
The Saints earned a fifth-place finish in Saturday's WHAC conference competition, highlighting continued improvement as the season progresses. Aquinas increased the difficulty of its routine by incorporating more advanced group and pyramid stunts and successfully hit each element.
"We are growing each week using our strengths to meet our potential," said head coach Sue Smith. "We are learning strategies to optimize the new NCA scoring system put into place this year. We put more difficult group and pyramid stunts in our routine this week and hit them all. I am so proud of the excellence they exhibited today."
STUNT Opens Season at NKU
On Sunday, Aquinas reintroduced its STUNT season, competing in its first games since the program's return. The Saints faced Hiram College and Tiffin University, falling 13–6 and 17–0, respectively.
Despite the results, the Saints showed promising energy early, capturing the first two points of the day and setting a positive tone for the program's return.
"We brought STUNT back to Aquinas this year and played our first games today," Smith said. "It was an exciting start winning the first two points. Starting with success was exciting for the athletes. I am so proud of how we performed and am looking forward to doing great things with STUNT."
STUNT vs. Centenary (Monday, Feb. 16)
Monday's slate presented another test as the Saints squared off with Centenary College, dropping both contests by 12–0 margins. Despite the scores, Aquinas continued to show resilience throughout the day, battling through injuries that shortened the lineup and forced athletes into unfamiliar roles. The Saints maintained their composure and effort from start to finish, focusing on execution and growth with each routine.
Even while shorthanded, Aquinas demonstrated determination and unity, using the adversity as an opportunity to build depth and experience. The performances underscored the team's commitment to the program's growth, as the Saints continue to develop chemistry and toughness early in the revived STUNT season.
