Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to #9 Georgetown

The Aquinas women's lacrosse team began their season by traveling to Kentucky for a game against #9 Georgetown on Friday afternoon (Feb 25). The Saints were outscored in both periods by totals of 6-4 in both periods for a final score of 12-8 in their season opener. 

The Saints drop to 0-1 on the season while Georgetown rises to 3-1 on the season. 

The two teams went back and forth in the first half trading goals. Georgetown struck first at 10:42, followed by the Saints at 4:56, then the Tigers jumped back quick at 4:21 mark to end the first quarter. The back and forth continued in the second quarter until the Tigers were able to score two more goals than the Saints putting them up 6-4 to end the half. 

Despite losing the draw control at the beginning of the second half, the Saints were the first team to strike this period. Anna Cook scord at 13:37 to put the Saints within one. Then after two more Georgetown goals, the Saints found the back of the net again with five seconds left in the period. This made it 6-8 Georgetown at the end of the quarter. Then despite two more goals for the Saints, they were unable to secure the win as Georgetown netted four more goals for a final score of 12-8.

Leading the Saints was freshman Trinity Reynoso recording two goals and two assists. Davis also tallied three shots, four ground balls, and had one caused turnovers. Cierra Davis finished with two goals, one assist, and one ground ball. Alexis Villarini contributed five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Recording one goal each was Kennadie Minerich, Anna Cook, Alex Sullivan, and Megan MoffatCarli Taylor added three ground balls and one caused turnover. Sophia Schmader finished with two assists on the game. 

Aquinas saw two keepers play in the matchup with Azariah Wells and Jordan Gardner. The pair saw a total of sixteen shots on the day and Gardner recorded four saves in the first half. 

The Saints return to the field on Sunday (Mar. 27) as AQ travels to Indianapolis, Indiana for a matchup against Marian The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
