Box Score The Aquinas women's lacrosse team continued their opening weekend when they traveled to Indianapolis for a game against receiving votes Marian University on Sunday (Feb 27). The Saints had two players score hat tricks and one player score a double hat trick in the 18-9 victory.
The Saints rise to 1-1 on the season and while Marian falls to 2-1 on the season.
The Saints got off to a hot start when they netted three goals in the first quarter. Kennadie Minerich started her day off with the first goal for the Saints and the other other two goals were scored by Cierra Davis and Trinity Reynoso. Marian finally responded at 4:39 with a goal of their own. Minerich then scored again at 2:07, but this was answered 26 seconds later when Marian scored off of a draw control to make the score 4-2. Shaylin Rings then added one more goal for the Saints to end the quarter, 5-2.
In the second, despite winning the draw control, Aquinas was scored on within the first minute to make the score 5-3. After this the Saints went on a run and ended the half with a score of 9-5. This was in part to Minerich scoring two more goals along with Davis and Rings getting their second goals of the game.
To begin the second half, Carli Taylor won the opening draw control that set up Davis for a goal earning her a hat trick. After this, Marian went on a three goal run until Minerich scored on a free position shot at 4:22. To end the period, Shaylin Rings scored twice to make it 13-8 Saints.
In the final quarter, the Saints outscored the Knights 5-1 with goals coming from Lauren Hansen, Davis, Reynoso, Minerich, and Sophia Schmader.
Leading the Saints was sophomore Kennadie Minerich recording six goals and one assist. Minerich also tallied 13 shots, four ground balls, and had three caused turnovers. Cierra Davis finished with four goals, one assist, and three ground balls. Shaylin Rings also had a hat trick with four goals, two ground balls and one cause turnover.
Aquinas sawAzariah Wells and Jordan Gardner split time in the net again today. The pair saw a total of 25 shots on the day and recorded a cumulative save percentage of 64%.
The Saints return to the field on Wednesday (Mar. 2) as AQ has their home opener against Hope College. The game is expected to begin at 5:00 PM.
