The women's lacrosse team was in action one last time over the 2022 spring break when they played in a battle of the Saints against Thomas More University. The Saints of Aquinas come back to Grand Rapids with a 19-8 victory against TMU.
Aquinas moves to 4-3 on the season and Thomas More falls to 1-5 on the season.
Thomas More struck first in the game with a goal at 14:23. From here the two teams traded off goals till the period ended with a score of 7-5 AQ. By this point
Trinity Reynoso already had herself a hat trick and
Cierra Davis and
Kennadie Minerich had two goals each. This trio would continue to have a big game.
In the second quarter, TMU would draw first blood again, but the Saints would respond with an onslaught of goals, scoring another seven. Leading the team in goals this quarter would be Minerich with three. Reynoso and Davis would then add to their total with one each in the quarter. Then
Shaylin Rings and
McKenna Burke scored their only goals of the game in this quarter.
In the final two quarters, both teams saw a decrease in goals scored but AQ was able to score five goals in the half compared to the TMU's two. Scoring for AQ in the half was
Cierra Davis with two,
Katelyn Hall,
Trinity Reynoso, and
Lauren Hansen. The trio of Minerich, Davis, and Reynoso scored five goals apiece in the contest.
On the other side of the field
Alexis Villarini had five ground balls and four caused turnovers to anchor the Saints defense.
Freshman
Jordan Gardner saw a majority of game time in the goal. She finished with six saves and six goals against her in 51 minutes of play. From there,
Azariah Wells took over for the remainder of the game and finished with one save and two goals against.
The team finished with 35 shots on goal, 21 ground balls, and nine caused turnovers.
The Saints will be back action next Wednesday March 16 when they play against Albion College in Albion, Michigan. The game time is set for 6:00 PM
