The Aquinas STUNT team competed in its first two games ever at AQ down in River Forest, Illinois on Saturday (Mar. 19) against Central Michigan and Concordia-Chicago. The Saints first took on the Chippewas and fell 19-2 before competing against the hosting Cougars and competed better in the 10-3 loss. CMU and CUC also played each other in the triangular as the Chippewas prevailed 16-7.
Games are split up into four quarters with the first quarter focusing on partner stunts routines, the second quarter focuses on pyramids and tosses, the third quarter has group jumps and tumbling routines, and the fourth quarter is a combination of the first three quarters. In the first three quarters there are four different routines that can be done as teams pick which routine they want to do and the opponent has to do the routine as well. The fourth quarter goes down to three different routines. Depending on the routine, there can be any number of athletes that compete on the floor at a time.
In the first game against Central Michigan, the Saints collected two points with one coming in round three of the third quarter and the other coming in round one of the fourth quarter. AQ had 22 different athletes compete in the routines with seven of them having a rating at +3 to end the game and the team average being +1. Leading your team in ratings designates the athlete as the Power Ranked Athlete of the Game. The seven Saints that led the team in ratings wereÂ
Brylee Boyd,Â
Morgan Cremer,Â
Maria Klemish,Â
Caitlyn Tyson,Â
Sydney Weersing,Â
Hannah Wubben, andÂ
Olivia Youmans.Â
The second game against Concordia-Chicago was closer as AQ collected three points in round two of the third quarter, and in rounds one and three in the fourth. All 22 athletes competed again in the second game as the team rating average bumped up to +2 with another seven finishing with a +4 to be named the Power Ranked Athletes of the Game. Cremer, Tyson, Weersing, and Youmans led the Saints in ratings for the second straight game, whileÂ
Destiny Sisco-Nguyen,Â
Kathryn Totty, andÂ
Avery White joined them for game two.
Aquinas will compete in two other games this season on Wednesday (Mar. 23) in Olivet, Michigan. The Saints will first take on Muskingum at 8:00 PM, before taking on host Olivet at 9:00 PM.
