AQ STUNT Wraps Up First Season Against Muskingum and Olivet

The Saints close out the season falling to Fighting Muskies 13-5 and the Comets 10-4

The Aquinas STUNT team wrapped up its short first season of games in Olivet, Michigan on Wednesday (Mar. 23) against Muskingum and Olivet. The Saints first took on the Fighting Muskies, scoring their most points in a game in the 13-5 loss before taking on the host Comets and falling 10-4.

Games are split up into four quarters with the first quarter focusing on partner stunts routines, the second quarter focuses on pyramids and tosses, the third quarter has group jumps and tumbling routines, and the fourth quarter is a combination of the first three quarters. In the first three quarters there are four different routines that can be done as teams pick which routine they want to do and the opponent has to do the routine as well. The fourth quarter goes down to three different routines. Depending on the routine, there can be any number of athletes that compete on the floor at a time.

In the first game against Muskingum, the Saints had a big round one in the fourth period where they scored three of their five points. The other two points came from a pyramid and tosses routine in the second quarter and a jumps and tumbling routine in the third. Of the 20 athletes that competed, 15 of them had at least a rating of +4 or higher with the team average being a +4. Kathryn Totty, Avery White, and Olivia Youmans led the way with a +6. Leading your team in ratings designates the athlete as the Power Ranked Athlete of the Game.

The second game against Olivet was a shortened game as there was only two rounds per quarter instead of the usual four. AQ scored a point on both routines in the third quarter and picked up another two in the fourth. Due to the shortened game, only 10 of the 20 athletes received the average rating of +3 or higher. Morgan Cremer, Caitlyn Tyson, Totty, and Youmans finished with a +5 rating to be named the Power Ranked Athletes of the Game.

Aquinas will look forward to continuing to learn the routines for next season and add more recruits in its second season of play.
