The Aquinas men's lacrosse team continued their season today as they faced off against the Gray Wolves from Lourdes. The Saints continue their conference streak of five wins after defeating the Gray Wolves 16-7.
The Saints are now 8-3 overall and 6-1 in conference while Dearborn falls to 7-4 and 4-3.
Lourdes was the first team to strike in the game as they scored at 9:28. Then the two teams kept continuing to match one another in the period. The first goal for AQ was scored by
Jon Jardis just 23 seconds after Lourdes scored. Then
Mitch Haggart struck when he was unassisted on a goal. Lourdes struck twice with a goal from sophomore
Kevin LaHaie sandwiched in between. Before the end of the period, Haggart and LaHaie each struck again as well as Lourdes to end the period 5-4 AQ.
In the second, both AQ and Lourdes found the back of the net twice in the second period.
Blake Baker and Haggart were the two Saints to score here.
In the second half, Aquinas' defense shut down the Gray Wolves as they outscored them 9-1. In the third period,
Mitch Haggart was able to find the back of the net once again. Other goals came from
Zachary Sweet and
Joey Fitzgerald. In the final quarter of action Haggart had two more goals to bring his grand total to six goals on the day. Other goals came from Baker, Hunter Robers,
Kyle Gauthier, and Sweet.
AQ saw two different men in net today with
Clayton Boerigter playing a majority of the game and
Ricky Vega, finding action at the end of it. The duo accumulated at total of 10 saves and seven goals against.
Aquinas totaled 30 ground balls in the game with six coming from
Kevin LaHaie and four coming from
Lou Nageotte. The team also accumulated 7 caused turnovers with
Matt Wagner leading that category with two.
Aquinas will be back in action on Wednesday when they head home for a matchup against Siena Heights. The battle of the Saints is scheduled for 5:00 PM at the AQ Athletic Field.
