Men's Lacrosse Wins "Battle of the Saints" Against Siena Heights

On Wednesday (April 20) the Aquinas men's lacrosse team was in action when they hosted Siena Heights. In the "Battle of the Saints" Aquinas bested Siena by a score of 13-7. With this victory Aquinas moves to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the conference while Siena falls to 7-5 and 6-2 in WHAC play.
 
AQ started off hot in the first quarter shutting down Siena Heights and scoring seven goals of their own. Joey Fitzgerald was the first Saint to strike today when he scored at 11:29. Then, Mitch Haggart had back to back scores when he was first assisted by Kevin LaHaie at 11:24 and another at 7:26. Joey Fitzgerald then scored for his second of the game at 4:46. Next Kyle Gauthier scored at 3:48 for his eighth goal of the season. In the final minutes of the quarter, Zachary Sweet scored twice at 3:22 and 1:46 to put the Saints up 7-0
 
Siena Heights was able to get on the board in the second quarter when they scored first at 9:14. Aquinas scored two more times in the period with goals coming from Jon Jardis and Mitch Haggart. Haggart and Jardis then assisted each other on their goals.
 
To start the third quarter Zachary Sweet had his third goal of the game to earn him a hat trick. Brady Waling also got on the board with a score at 9:43. Siena Heights went on a run the rest of the quarter scoring four times. At the end of the fourth AQ lead 11-5.
 
In the final period both teams scored twice. Siena's two goals were sandwiched in between two Zachary Sweet goals. At the final buzzer, AQ won the "Battle of the Saints" with a final score of 13-7.
 
Clayton Boerigter anchored the Saints in the net facing 22 on goal shots. He was able to save 15 shots and had seven goals against him.
 
Jardis, Haggart, and Sweet each had five points throughout the game. Boerigter lead the way with ground balls with six. Behind him was Sweet and Cam Gunn with four each. Gavin Kleynenberg lead the Saints in Caused Turnovers tonight with five.
 
The men will be back in action for their final game of the regular season on Saturday April 23. The Saints will host #10 Lawrence Tech at the AQ Athletic Field at 2:00 PM.
