The women's lacrosse team was back in action today as they faced off against the Madonna Crusaders. The Saints came into the matchup with a 4-0 conference record and after a 16-5 victory they remain perfect in conference play.
The Saints improve to 9-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference, while Madonna sits at 5-3 and 1-3 in the conference.
The Saints had a dominant first half and recorded 11 goals before the Crusaders were able to score at 8:17 of the second quarter. At the end of the half the Saints were up by a score of 13-2. Recording hat tricks in this half was
Trinity Reynoso,
Kennadie Minerich, and
Emma Bailey.
Megan Moffat and
Shaylin Rings each recorded two goals in the half also.
Azariah Wells played the first half in goal for the Saints and had a plethora of stellar saves. She recorded five saves and two goals against her.
In the second half the pace slowed down with three goals from each team. Two goals came for Aquinas in the third when Minerich scored at 13:29 and 2:44 on a man down goal. Then Moffat scored the final goal for the Saints and of the game at 4:31 of the fourth. This goal earned Moffat a hat trick as well.
Freshman,
Jordan Gardner was in goal during the second half and recorded three saves and three goals against her.
Alexis Villarini and Minerich lead the team in ground balls with four each. They both recorded two caused turnovers as well as
Carli Taylor,
Brianna Trepins, and Rings to contribute to the teams 14 total. Aquinas recorded 26 total shots and 26 ground balls compared to Madonna's 17 and 22.
The women will play against on Wednesday, April 6 when they travel to Southfield, Michigan for a contest against the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech. The two teams will begin the match at 5:00 PM.
