The men's lacrosse team hosted the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils for their final regular home game of the season. The Saints bested LTU by a score of 17-8 on a warm weathered senior day that saw many fans come out to the AQ Athletic Field.
At the conclusion of todays game, Aquinas rises to 10-3 on the season and 8-1 in the conference. The Blue Devils fall to 6-7 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
The game was all Aquinas in the first half. The Saints struck almost immediately in the game when
Jack Rioux scored at 14:28. The next two goals came from
Mitch Haggart and
Blake Baker to which they assisted each other's goals. The Saints final goal in the quarter came from senior
Jon Jardis when he was assisted by
Hunter Roberts at 5:10
Then in the second quarter, one goal came from
Joey Fitzgerald and the second two came from
Mitch Haggart to earn him a hat trick already.
To start the second half, Jardis started out the Saints scoring at 14:23 when he was assisted by
Cam Gunn. Two more goals came for AQ from Haggart and
Zachary Sweet before Lawrence Tech was able to get on the board. Jardis netted none more goal in the quarter to give him a hat trick on the day. Lawrence Tech then found a way to score three times in the last two minutes of the period.
In the final quarter the Saints outscored the Blue Devils by a score of 6-4. The goals in the period came from
Hunter Roberts, Haggart (2), Sweet (2) and Fitzgerald.
Clayton Boerigter had a day in the net for Aquinas when he faced 21 shots on goal. He was able to record 14 saves and had seven goals against him.
Austin Hynote saw a small portion of time at the end of the game and had one goal against him.
Reed Chastain lead the way for the Saints in ground balls with five out of the teams 36. As a team the Saints had seven total caused turnovers.
With this win, the men clinch the #2 seed in the WHAC Conference Tournament. They will host a semi-final game on Thursday, April 28 with the start time still to be determined.
