The (RV) AQ Saints women's lacrosse team continued conference play this afternoon (Apr. 9) against the Lourdes Gray Wolves. The game started close, but Aquinas began to pull away in the second quarter. By the sound of the final whistle, Aquinas racked up a 20-7 lead for a comfortable victory. The Saints improve to 10-5 on the season and are currently ranked second in the WHAC with a 6-1 conference record.
Emma Bailey would start the game with two unassisted goals as the Saints would race out to an early 2-0 lead. Lourdes would answer with two goals of its own, but that would be the last time the Saints would lose the lead.
Kennadie Minerich would give AQ the lead back and
Shaylin Rings would score two of her own to give Aquinas a 5-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
The Gray Wolves would open the second quarter with two goals to reduce the deficit to just one goal. However, AQ would outscore Lourdes 8-2 throughout the remainder of the second quarter to take a 13-6 advantage into halftime. Bailey would score her third goal of the game to pick up her hat trick. Ring would score three more goals in the second quarter to give her five goals in the first half. Minerich would also score another goal,
Trinity Reynoso would get two goals in the second quarter, and
Megan Moffat would pick up a goal.
Azariah Wells would enter the game as the Saints goalie for the second half and she would absolutely shut down the Gray Wolves attack. Wells would allow just one goal on six shots on goal throughout the entirety of the second half.
Alex Sullivan, Bailey, Reynoso, Moffat, and
McKenna Burke would all score one goal in the third quarter to provide Aquinas with a commanding 18-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The final quarter would be fairly quiet between the two side with Aquinas scoring twice and Lourdes scoring just once. Rings would score her sixth goal of the contest and
Lauren Hansen would score her first goal of the game. Lourdes would get one goal back with 2:38 left to play, but Aquinas would walk off the field with a 20-7 victory.
The Saints outshot the Gray Wolves 29-17 on the day. Aquinas also led in ground balls (27-18), clears (23-12), and forced turnovers (21-13).
The Saints will be back in action next Wednesday (Apr. 13) with a road matchup against the Rochester Warriors.
