Ann Arbor, Mich. — Seven different goal scorers found the back of the net to lift the No. 17-ranked Aquinas women's soccer team to a 7-0 road win on Saturday (Sept. 24) in the Saints' conference-opener over Concordia (Mich.).
AQ moves to 5-2-1 overall with its largest margin victory of the season and fifth straight win over the Cardinals (1-6-1, 0-1 WHAC).
A bulk of the Saints scoring came in the second half where they added six goals, including two in the final minute and one of those coming in the final second by
Maeva Lichtensteiger. She was one of three Aquinas' scorers to collect their first goal of the season alongside
Hannah Bowling and
Ivanna Perez.
Sydney Shenk started the onslaught in the 21st minute. Her second goal of the season and the only goal of the first half despite Aquinas outshooting Concordia, 16-1. It was much of the same in the second half with AQ adding 14 more shots. The Saints finished with a 17-1 edge on shots on goal.
AQ freshman goalkeeper
Kayla Shuk (4-1-1) made the lone save to pick up her fourth shutout of the season.
Laia Cunill scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 71st minute off a free kick after she assisted the Saints' second goal in the 50th minute by
Macy Hollingsworth.
Sandra Segovia made it 4-0 in the 72nd minute by finishing a rebound off the Concordia goalkeeper.
Bowling's goal came in the 80th minute before Perez and Lichtensteiger came the afternoon with a pair of late insurance goals in the 90th minute.
Marie-Louise Abild assisted the Perez goal.
Aquinas is back in action with another WHAC road contest on Wednesday (Sept. 28) against UM-Dearborn. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
