RESULTS
Allendale, Michigan - The men's track and field team kicked off their 2023 today at the Bob Eubanks Open at Grand Valley State. They had a number of impressive performances as they begin the road to indoor nationals.
The Saints had multiple athletes in the 60 meter dash, but
Nate White and
Yussuf Abdullahi were able to qualify for the finals. White finished fifth with a time of 7.10 while Abdullahi took seventh with a time of 7.17. Continuing with the sprints,
Nathan Iacona was AQ's top finisher in the 200-meter dash. He finished with a time of 22.59 to place fifth overall.
Then in the 60 Hurdles,
Jake Van Tassell qualified for finals and finished fifth with a time of 8.65.
In the 600 Meter Run,
Caleb Hodgkinson was the Saints top finisher placing second with a time of 1:20.
Will Westveer and
Will Finch were right behind him with a time of 1:21.
Zander Masten and
Liam Kelly also competed in the event.
In the mile,
Ben Hardy finished with a new personal record of 4:15. He placed third overall in the event.
Rob Lohr and
Matthew Schieber were shortly behind him with times of 4:18 and 4:20.
Connor Callahan,
Connor Clemens,
Jonah Maichele,
Andrew Ireland,
Christian Martinez-Ramos,
Carson Lafferty, and
Caleb Billings were all in the crowded AQ event.
In the high jump,
Jacob Dawson and
Casey Mathieu tied for fourth with a final height of 1.78 meters, while
Jacob Merryfield finished sixth with a time of 1.73 meters.
Finally in the men's shot put,
Ethan Morgan was the highest finisher for AQ placing third overall with a throw of 11.17 meters. He was followed closely by
Thomas Bearden (10.95 meters) and
Brendan Madej (10.71 meters)
The men will have their home opener next week Friday at the John Flaminio Classic. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM, Friday evening.
