Grand Rapids, Michigan -Â Sam Sietsema, the son of Susan and John Sietsema, has signed his national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Aquinas College. Sietsema, who currently attends Zeeland East High School, became the first signee of the 2025-26 recruiting class for the Aquinas College men's cross country and track & field programs.
Sietsema simply stated, "I chose Aquinas because I was given a good financial aid package, I loved the people I met there, and I have a good relationship with some of the coaches at Aquinas College."
Sam, who enjoys lifting, throwing, being outside, and listening to music, has posted personal bests that include 148-3 (Discus) and 48-10 (Shot Put). Sietsema, who was the 2024 Zeeland East Track & Field Coaches Award recipient, will be a welcomed addition to Coach Neal's throws group at Aquinas College.
Brent Brock, head track and field coach at Zeeland East High School added, "We're incredibly proud of Sam and his commitment to continue his career at Aquinas College. What separates him isn't just his ability in the throws — it's his leadership and character. When he was injured last season, he didn't step away; he stepped up by helping coach and mentoring younger athletes. Aquinas is gaining not only a talented thrower, but a selfless leader who elevates everyone around him."
Sam has four siblings named Stephen, Lily, Isaac, and Katie, and he plans on majoring in Clinical Exercise Science at Aquinas College.
Aquinas assistant coach Ralph Neal commented, "We are excited to have Sam join the Saints track & field squad this fall. He is off to a strong senior season after being sidelined with a serious injury for the entirety of his junior year. Sam will be a significant contributor to our team in numerous events and we are lucky to have him."
