Grand Rapids, Michigan -Â The men's track & field team concluded the two day WHAC Indoor Championships with a fourth place finish. The Saints tallied 99.5 points and recorded one more conference champion, had a new entry to the top five list and added a provisional qualifier. Indiana Tech won the meet with 242.5 points.
After a dominating performance in the 5k on Friday, the Saints and
Juan David Hernandez were back it on Saturday afternoon. After tallying 24 points in the 5,000, the Saints secured another 23 points in the 3k. Hernandez would win the race in a time of 8:44.61 to claim his second conference title in as many days. With the win he also was named the Most Valuable Performer in the championships.Â
Charlie Coyle (8:47.72) would place third,
Shema Reponse (8:49.89) would nab the fifth spot, and
Brian Langlois placed sixth in a time of 8:49.89.Â
The Saints also found success in the 1,000 meters.
Zander Masten would finish with a time of 2:29.93 to place third overall. His time moves him to #5 on the Saints All-Time List and also is a provisional qualifier for the National Championships.
Jaben Bakker (2:31.05) placed fourth, while
Jack Phillips (2:36.41) picked up a point with an eighth place finish.
Keiton Fase placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.29. Bakker and Phillips would later team up with
Jake Rottier and
Alex Dumont to place seventh in the 4x4 with a time of 3:35.53.
The Saints would score four points in the field as
Wesley Russell (45-10.75) placed fifth in the shot put.
Jaben Bakker was named Aquinas' Champions of Character representative.
Aquinas will now switch their attention to the NAIA National Championships that will be contested in Gainesville, Florida in two weeks.
