#7 AQ Women's Soccer Wins 3-0 Over Rival Golden Eagles

The Saints keep a ninth consecutive clean sheet, score three times for 10th win of the season

Grand Rapids, Mich. — The No. 4-ranked Aquinas women's soccer team got back in the win column Wednesday night (Oct. 11) with a 3-0 road victory at Cornerstone.

The Saints (10-0-2, 5-0-1 WHAC) bounced back after a 0-0 tie this past Saturday (Oct. 7) against (RV) UNOH.

With the win, Aquinas has now beaten the Golden Eagles (6-3-2, 2-2-2 WHAC) nine straight times dating back to 2018. The Saints picked up their ninth straight shutout on Wednesday as well.

The Saints haven't allowed a goal in over a month with Campbellsville being the last team to score on them on Sept. 7. The clean sheet streak is now at 836 minutes of game time.

AQ sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Shuk earned her ninth shutout of the season. Shuk is quickly approaching the single-season school record, which she set last year as freshman with 13 shutouts in 23 games played.

Macy Hollingsworth gave Aquinas an early advantage with her third goal of the season coming just 2:16 into the contest. Avery Tack picked up her second assist of the season on a ball she kicked from AQ's side of the halfway line. Hollingsworth ran past multiple defenders and poked the ball in.

Aquinas doubled up 20 minutes later on the third goal of the season for Brittney Probst. She won the ball off a defender and snuck a quick shot inside the near post to give the Saints a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Just like the first half, it didn't take the Saints long to get going in the second half. Laia Cunill scored three and a half minutes into the frame with a looping shot the went right over the goalkeeper's head and just under the crossbar, 3-0.

Both Cunill and Probst started on the bench for the Saints. Aquinas effectively used 16 players in the contest.

AQ outshot Cornerstone, 20-4 (10-2 shots on target). The Saints also had 11 corner kicks, while the Golden Eagles failed to get one.

Conference plays rolls on as the Saints are at Lourdes next on Saturday (Oct. 14). Kickoff at 4 p.m. with the men's soccer game to follow at 7 p.m.
