#4 AQ Women's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw Against UNOH

Neither side able to find the game-winner after 90 hard-fought minutes

Grand Rapids, Mich. — The final result on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7) goes down as a 0-0 draw. But, for the No. 4-ranked Aquinas women's soccer team, the outcome arguably felt more like a defeat.

The Saints (9-0-2, 4-0-1 WHAC) had their nine-game win streak snapped at the hands of the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers (6-4-2, 3-1-1 WHAC).

The humbling result also marks the first time since Oct. 9, 2021, since Aquinas has dropped points against a conference opponent — a run of 21 straight regular-season WHAC wins.

Not ideal, but AQ still holds the top the spot in the conference with 13 points and the Saints still control their own destiny with seven WHAC games remaining. Win out and Aquinas wins its fourth straight regular season conference title. No extra math or calculations are needed.

UNOH and Aquinas had minimal chances to score the game-winning goal on Saturday, as both defenses came to play.

The Racers ended up outshooting the Saints, 13-10 (9-5 shots on target). It's the first time this season that an opponent has taken more shots and put more shots on target than AQ.

Aquinas had the best scoring chance with five minutes left in the first half when Stephanie Ramos clipped the center of the cross bar and the ball bounced out of play.

Laia Cunill registered three shots on goal for the Saints, while Macy Hollingsworth and Ariana Garcia each had one.

AQ senior backup goalkeeper Alison Bishop made her first-ever varsity start and made nine save to preserve the Saints' shutout streak. Aquinas hasn't allowed a goal in eight straight games, or 746 minutes of game time.

The Saints look to regroup and get back in the win column against their in-city rivals Cornerstone on Wednesday (Oct. 11). Kickoff at 7 p.m. from CU's Soccer Stadium.
