Olivet, Mich. — The Aquinas women's swim and dive team made its way to the Upton Center Pool in Olivet, Mich., on Saturday (Oct. 7) to take on Olivet in a head-to-head competition. The Saints would have a spectacular showing as they would unofficially earn 156 out of 206 points possible. AQ would take the day with a large win on the road.
Due to timing issues at the pool, some results have to be adjusted and the scores may change. The following meet notes come from AQ head coach
Kristy Hepp.
Amelia Edens,
Kennedy Pierce,
Claire Hines and
Chloe Boivin started off the meet in school-record time, winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:55.58.
Sophomore
Ella Althaver led the distance events, winning the 1,000 (12:07.50) and 500 (5:55.46) freestyle races. Freshman
Izzy Feltch claimed second in both the 1,000 (12:10.32) and 500 (5:57) freestyle events.
Amelia Edens won the 200 IM in school-record time of 2:16.13, also earning an NAIA provisional time standard.
The women swept the top 4 finishes in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events, with freshman
Lauren Mezeske winning the 50 and finishing second in the 100.
Sarah Colvin won the 1M diving event, scoring 176.70 with six dives.
Freshman
Emma Hale won the 100 backstroke, finishing with a 1:05.46.
Coach Hepp had this to say about the team's performance, "Our women's team has continued to impress at our second meet of the season. With two more school records, an NAIA national provisional time and dominant team performance, we're on a great path to have a dominant season and strong finishes at the conference and national championship meets. I'm so proud to see their hard work in training pay off in competition, and we'll have a big test of our abilities next weekend at Bethel."
The Saints are back in action next week (Oct. 14) at Bethel for another head-to-head. The meet will be held at the Elkhart Aquatic Center in Elkhart, Ind., at 1 p.m.
