First Half Deficit Too Much For Men's Lacrosse in Season Opener

Westfield, IN - The Aquinas men's lacrosse team opened their season this afternoon in a neutral site contest against the #10 Webber International Warriors. The Warriors were able to upset the Saints after 60 minutes of play by a score of 19-10 behind nine goals in the second quarter. 

The Saints were able to strike first in the contest when senior, Kevin LaHaie netted AQ's first goal of the season being assisted by Mitch Haggart at 13:25. This would his first of multiple in today's contest. From here the Warriors would go on a 12-1 run through the rest of the half. Haggart would score AQ's one goal in this stretch.
 
The Saints would be able to best the Warriors in goals the second half scoring eight to Webber's seven. Jack Rioux would score first in the second half when he was assisted by fifth-year, Jon Jardis. He netted his only goal quickly at 14:45. Then, sophomore Zachary Sweet would score two goals, sandwiching a Warrior's goal. He would be assisted by LaHaie and Nico Kittredge on the two scores. LaHaie would net his second goal with the 17 seconds left in the third quarter.
 
The Warriors would then score the first three goals in the fourth quarter before AQ could answer. LaHaie would score to break the ice netting his third goal of the day. Next, Dean Cooper would net his first collegiate goal today scoring unassisted at 4:31. Two more goals would come in roughly the final minute for AQ from Jardis and LaHaie, but the Warriors would walk away with the 19-10 victory.
 
In net, Clayton Boerigter would face 30 shots on goal and was able to save 11 of them. Webber would take 41 shots compared to AQ's 35. LaHaie lead AQ in points today with five and was followed by Jardis and Haggart with three each.
 
AQ will continue their road trip this weekend when they head to Dubugue, Iowa to take on the Clarke Pride. The away contest takes place on Sunday at 12:00 PM.
