Dubuque, IA - The Aquinas men's lacrosse team concluded their opening weekend today after traveling to Dubuque, Iowa for a matchup against the Clarke Pride. The Saints would dominate the Pride from the opening faceoff, winning the contest by a score of 31-5 behind 13 different scorers.
Hunter Roberts would net the first goal of the game at 13:24 when he was assisted by
Jon Jardis. Matt Archer from Clark would answer less than a minute later, evening the score on a man up opportunity. From here the flood gates would open, with AQ going on a 10-0 run before the quarter's end.
Zachary Sweet and
Jon Jardis would each net hat tricks in the first quarter, while
Hunter Roberts would net another goal.
Brady Waling,
Mitch Haggart, and
Kris Wikman would all net goals in the first quarter.
Oliver Modderman would score his first collegiate goal to open the quarter for the Saints when he scored unassisted at 12:07. The Saints would continue their momentum, with six more goals before the half. Haggart (2),
Dean Cooper, Gavin Klynenburg, Jardis, and
Nico Kittredge would all contribute to the Saint's lead.
In the second half, Clarke would find more momentum scoring four times, but AQ would smother the Pride with 13 scores. Goals would come from Sweet (2),
Alex Rolands (2), Cooper (2), Waling (2), Roberts (2), Wikman,
Kevin LaHaie, and
Tim Shacklette. AQ would cruise their way to the 31-5 victory. Six Saints recorded hat tricks this afternoon with
Zachary Sweet leading the way behind 5 goals.
Jon Jardis would record 10 points with four goals and six assist.
Four Saints saw time in goal with
Clayton Boerigter recording the W with 1 Save and 1 Goal against him.
Ricky Vega would enter in the second quarter and would record 2 saves.
Austin Hynote would play the entirety of the third quarter with 2 goals against him and 1 save. Finally,
Beau Craig would enter in the fourth with two goals against him.
AQ returns to action on Sunday, March 5 in their home opener against #5 Saint Ambrose. The contest begins at 2:00 PM at the AQ Athletic Field.
