Saint Ambrose Tops Men's Lacrosse 10-8 in A Battle Of Top Five Schools

Grand Rapids, Michigan - The #4 men's lacrosse team hosted their first home game of the season this afternoon welcoming the #5 Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees. The two top five squads had an intense and exciting game, but after three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, the Fighting Bees walked away with the 10-8 victory. AQ falls to 1-2 overall this season while Saint Ambrose improves to 2-4.
 
The Bees drew first blood in today's contest with a goal coming quickly at 14:33 in the first quarter. They'd strike again at 8:16 to go up 2-0. AQ would net their first goal at 3:06 when Alex Rolands found the net on an assist from Brady Waling. Saint Ambrose would score once more on a man-up opportunity to lead 3-1 going into the second quarter.
 
The script would be flipped in the second quarter with AQ scoring three goals to Saint Ambrose's one. AQ would score first on a man-up opportunity with Nico Kittredge scoring off a pass from Mitch Haggart. The two teams would go back and forth for eight minutes until the Bees scored at 4:49. AQ would race to the other side of the field and score six seconds later when Waling got himself a goal. Haggart was credited with the assist. Jon Jardis rode the momentum and scored 14 seconds later off an assist from Jack Rioux at 4:29. The two teams would enter the half tied at 4.
 
In the third quarter, the bees would outscore AQ by a score of 3-2. After a goal from Saint Ambrose, AQ's first goal would come from Haggart when he was assisted by Jardis at 6:48. Two more goals from Saint Ambrose would come before AQ's second goal with 30 seconds left in the quarter. AQ would enter the fourth quarter down 7-6.
 
The Saints would look to wrestle a win away from the Bees when Waling scored at 10:28. They would improve their chances when Hunter Roberts scored at 9:35 to take their first lead at 8-7. Within thirty seconds, Saint Ambrose would tie the game at eight, before hitting two more goals later in the fourth to sink the Saints.

In 60 minutes of play, Clayton Boerigter anchored the Saints defense with 18 saves and 10 goals against him. 
 
AQ will have a short break from competition with their next game scheduled for Monday, March 13 at 1:00 PM. The Saints will host Missouri Baptist at the AQ Athletic Field.
