Two School Records Fall at St. Francis Last Chance Meet for Track and Field

Joilet, Illinois - The Aquinas track and field teams continued competition as their season winds down at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite this past weekend. The Saints continued to shine, with all time AQ marks, school records, and NAIA Qualifiers.

Women

The meet started off on a high note this weekend when Emily Jones entered the javelin on Friday. Jones' best throw of 38.74 meters (127-1) in the event earned her fifth place overall. But more importantly Jones now stands as the School Record holder in the javelin. Jones captures the AQ crown that has stood since 1989 with Theresa Knizacky's mark of 124-10.

In the 5K, Hannah Adler bettered her third best mark on AQ's all time list. She finished seventh in the event with her time of 17:19. She was joined by Molly Harding in the 5K Invitational who ran 18:35.

Back in the field events, Kaylee Diamond won the high jump with a mark of 1.61 Meters. She bested second place who also jumped 1.61 Meters on previous missed jumps.

Men

The highlight reel of men's events was headlined by Jake Van Tassell in the two hurdle events. First in the 110 Hurdles, he ran 14.69 to etch his name into AQ history as the new school record holder. He knocks off Isaiah Jackson's time of 14.77 from last season. Then coming back in the 400 Hurdles, he improves his provisional qualifier after running 54.23. He also moves up to third in Aquinas history.

Next in the 100 Dash, Nate White continued his impressive season with a national qualifying mark. He took fourth place crossing the finish at 10.57 and he also moves to third in AQ history.

The third and final qualifying mark came from Caleb Hodgkinson. He took fourth by .5 seconds in the 800 Run and finished with a time of 1:52.81 to provisionally qualify. He was joined by four other Saints who were under two minutes. The four were Will Finch (1:55), Will Westveer (1:55), Rob Lohr (1:56) and Juan David Hernandez (1:58)

Finally, in the 5K on Friday, Connor Callahan and Edward Frey both had an outdoor PR. In the invitational section, Callahan raced his way to 15:05 while Frey ran 15:10 in the second heat of the event.

The Saints will end their season when they travel down to Marion, Indiana for the NAIA Outdoor Championships. The meet will be held over the course of three days starting on Wednesday, May 24.
