Ottawa Lake, Mich. — The Aquinas men's golf team open its 2023-24 campaign with a team score of 301 at the Lourdes Fall Invite on Tuesday (Sept. 5) at The Legacy Golf Club in Ottawa Lake, Mich.
Cleary and Lawrence Tech tied for first place with team scores of 296. Four strokes back at even 300 was Siena Heights with Aquinas (301) and UNOH (303) not far behind.
Senior
Matt Denhartigh shot a one-under-par 71 to tie Lawrence Tech's Diego Courtney for medalist honors. Courtney, however, took first-place honors after a scorecard playoff broke the tie.
Behind the two front-runners, six golfers from six different teams finished at even par (72) to tie for third place. One of the six was AQ senior
Dominic Luciani.
Rounding out AQ's team score were sophomore
Anthony Lalomia (74, 15th place) and freshman
Caleb Blackburn (84, 72nd place). Freshman
Austin Pitsch (86) rounded out the Saints' five-man team.
The Lourdes Fall Invite was the first competition for new AQ men's and women's golf head coach
John Konya.
The men's golf team is back in action on Sept. 24-26 with the WHAC Preview held at the Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta, Mich. While the Aquinas women's golf team will take on The Legacy Golf Course for their own Lourdes Fall Invite on Thursday (Sept. 7).
