Saints Fly Past Cardinals in 81-61 Rout

15 Saints see the court; Aquinas extends win streak to three.

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Saints looked to continue their winning ways tonight (Jan. 10) on "Coach Bo Court" in a WHAC matchup against the Concordia Cardinals. Aquinas did just that, besting the Cardinals 81-61 after taking an early lead in the first half.

Aquinas has won three consecutive games to improve their record to 9-6 with a 6-3 conference record. AQ is now tied with Rochester at fourth in the WHAC standings.

Aquinas 81, Concordia 61

DeAndre Francis immediately capitalized on a feed from Devon Boyd under the basket to score the game's first points on AQ's first possession. The Cardinals responded with a 7-0 run, but a pair of threes from Donovan Brown-Boyd immediately put AQ back in front. Jared Larry, Brown-Boyd, Samuel Medendorp, and Tommy Gregwer kept the run going for Aquinas as the 15-0 run put Aquinas ahead by double-digits.

Aquinas began to pull away several minutes later after Francis, Brown-Boyd, Boyd, and Andrew Larson combined for a 15-2 run, putting the Saints in the driver's seat with the score at 34-15. CUAA ended the run with a three, but AQ tacked on a few more points to end the half with a 38-18 advantage.

Concordia could not slow down AQ coming out of the locker rooms either, as the home side took as much as a 26-point lead on multiple occasions in the first few minutes of the second half. With the clock winding down and AQ still maintaining a large lead, everyone got in on the action. Terrance Jones scored his first collegiate points on a three-point play with just over two minutes left to play. Samuel Jacobs then scored his first career collegiate points after a swish from beyond the arc two minutes later.

The final buzzer sounded 22 seconds later to confirm AQ's commanding 81-61 victory.

By the Numbers

Aquinas' 20-point win was reflected in the box score as AQ had more points in the paint (48-20), fast break points (9-0), points off turnovers (21-8), and bench points (36-25) than Concordia.
