Grand Rapids, Mich. — The Aquinas College men's lacrosse team and Head Coach Peter Treppa are excited to announce the newest addition to the coaching staff in Matt Wagner. The 2022 Alumni joined the Aquinas Athletic Department in the summer of 2024 and serves as the assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the men's lacrosse team. Wagner moved into Peter Treppa's vacated position after Treppa was named the head coach for the men's lacrosse program in July.
Wagner returns to his Alma mater after a historic run as one of the best defenders in the history of the Aquinas program. Wagner was a four-time First Team All-Conference Selection, a three-time NAIA All-American, and was named to the 2019 NAIA National Tournament Team.
Since graduating, Wagner has been coaching at Forest Hills Eastern for the past two seasons. He worked as an assistant varsity coach in 2023 and was quickly promoted to the JV head coach in 2024.
The Grand Rapids native graduated from Aquinas College in 2022 with a major in business administration and sports management.
Here is what coach Treppa had to share about the addition of Wagner, "I am thrilled to welcome Matt back to Aquinas as a coach and mentor to our men. His decorated playing career had a profound impact on our program, elevating our defensive standards across the board. The unique passion and commitment that comes from coaching at one's alma mater will make him a tremendous asset as he develops our players on the defensive side of the ball. I feel truly blessed to work alongside two exceptional coaches (Wagner and Kransberger) who are equally passionate about competing and raising our program's standards."
