Grand Rapids, Mich. - The #12 Aquinas College Saints volleyball team extended their winning streak with a 3-0 sweep over Lawrence Tech, improving to 27-1 overall and 10-0 in conference play. Jenna Lee earned her 500th career kill in the process.
Aquinas 3, Lawrence Tech 0 (28-26, 25-12, 25-16)
The Saints set the pace early in the first set, claiming a 4-0 lead that featured a kill from Samee Teachworth and two aces by Lee. Aquinas maintained momentum with another five-point run, including kills from Lauren Chioini, Angelia Cutts, and Lee, pushing the lead to 12-6. The Blue Devils found their energy and closed the gap, eventually overtaking Aquinas at 24-21. Facing set point, the Saints rallied behind Lydia Harper and Mallory Keller, who delivered crucial kills. A service ace from Lee gave Aquinas the edge at 25-24. The set concluded with kills from Harper and Cutts, sealing a thrilling 28-26 victory.
Aquinas took full control of the second set, once again claiming a 4-0 lead, with Chioini and Keller leading the charge. The Saints extended their lead to 9-2 with an ace from Keller and a kill from Cutts. A seven-point run, capped by another ace from Lee, pushed the score to 21-8, and Lawrence Tech couldn't mount a response. Keller closed the set with an ace, and Aquinas cruised to a 25-12 win.
The third set saw Lawrence Tech take an early 3-0 lead, but Bella Hommes responded with two aces to put the Saints ahead 4-3. LTU kept AQ on their toes by finding their edge and claimed an 11-8 lead. The Saints continued to apply pressure, and reclaimed the lead 16-14 that saw another ace from Lee. Aquinas finished the match on a strong run, extending the lead to 21-15, and Harper closed out the night with an ace to complete the 25-16 win.
