Rittersberger Hat Trick Pushes (RV) Saints Past Michigan-Dearborn

Rittersberger now has 14 goals this season.

Dearborn, Mich. – After taking a week off from their last fixture, the (RV) Saints were back on the road Wednesday night (Oct. 16) to battle against the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines. Ricardo Rittersberger provided the offensive horsepower tonight, finding all three of AQ's goals for the Saint's sixth consecutive victory.

The win now has Aquinas at 10-3 on the season with a 6-2 conference record.

(RV) Aquinas 3, UM-Dearborn 1

The Saints applied pressure early, generating three corner kicks in the first seven minutes. Following the third corner, UM-Dearborn was called for a foul and Rittersberger was called to the spot. As he has done numerous times this season, Rittersberger put the ball into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.

Aquinas continued to dominate possession and found another breakthrough in the 27th minute after Tevan Jones found Rittersberger for his second goal of the game. The contest slowed down a little after the second goal with the Wolverines able to hold possession. However, UMD failed to generate a single shot in the first half as a result of fantastic defensive play from AQ.

Ivan Radovic was finally called into action at the start of the second half, but that resulted in a quick counterattack from Aquinas. UMD fought off the initial attack, but Rittersberger collected his hat trick in the 48th after a pass from Milan Hoeffnagel.

That would be the last goal for Aquinas and would kick off a goal drought until the Wolverines managed to score a consolation goal in the 82nd minute. The Saints mustered some last-minute offense as a result, but the game ultimately ended 3-1 in favor of AQ.

By the Numbers:
  • Rittersberger's three goals were his first hat trick of the 2024 season. It is his third career hat trick and extends his scoring streak to six games.
  • Hoeffnagel recorded his first assist of the season and Jones had his third.
  • Aquinas dominated the scoresheet, posting 20 shots and 11 shots on target to UMD's five shots and three on target.
  • AQ also had an incredible 11 corners over the course of the 90 minutes.
