#4 Saints Secure Senior Day with Clean Sheet

AQ advances their undefeated season to 12-0 (9-0)

Grand Rapids, Mich. — The No. 4-rated Aquinas College women's soccer team hosted the Gray Wolves of Lourdes on Saturday (Oct. 19) in addition to hosting AQ's senior day. The first half of the contest saw a back-and-forth which in turn saw the Saints actually on their back foot. The second half went on to show that Aquinas had nearly had their foot back to utilize it as a springboard later on. AQ rattled off three goals in the second half giving them the clean sheet victory on senior day.

Aquinas 3, Lourdes 0

The Saints started the contest off with a strong showing, but in time the Gray Wolves would muster several offensives and even push AQ onto their back foot for a healthy portion of the first half.

LU had possession but did not tabulate any shots of note due to the Aquinas back line.

With the horn, the first half had finished, reaching a 0-0 standstill.

With a fresh game plan and renewed vigor, AQ was ready for the second leg of the contest.

With each minute of the second half, the Saints had appeared to kick off the first half rust and oiled their gears.

The team found their course and arrived at their first destination as Madison Slezinksi collected the first goal just over 60 minutes into the match. Slezinksi was assisted by a combination sequence from Emily Gignac, and Maeva Lichtensteiger.

AQ had found their first destination and were able to take a breath. But on the whistle the Saints jumped right back to it as this time Lichtensteiger punched one in with a tap from Slezinski just 15 seconds later. Upping the Saints to 2-0.

Aquinas continued to find more opportunities but couldn't manage to ring one in.

Lichtensteiger broke that streak and returned to the game sheet in the 85th minute to tally her second goal, AQ now stood 3-0 over LU.

With the remaining time, no further goal was scored.

The No. 4-Saints had found their win on senior day as they kept their undefeated season alive.
