Grand Rapids, Mich. – The No. 12 Aquinas Women's Volleyball team swept Concordia in today's (Oct. 19) match-up further etching their name in the record books. The Saints have pushed their win streak to 22 matches in a row, giving them a 30-1 record. This makes AQ the first team in the NAIA to reach 30 wins for the 2024 season. The Saints remain undefeated in conference tallying 12 wins.
Aquinas 3, Concordia 0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-11)
A kill from Lauren Chioini and a service ace from Bella Hommes set the tone early as the Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Concordia. Another powerful kill from Chioini doubled the lead to 10-5. The teams traded points until Harper delivered a crucial kill, followed by a block from Harper and Samee Teachworth to push the Saints ahead 20-15. Mallory Keller closed out the first set with back-to-back kills, sealing a 25-17 win for Aquinas.
Harper and Samee Teachworth kicked off the second set with authority, posting a huge block for the first point. An ace from Keller and a kill by Angelia Cutts pushed the Saints to a 7-5 lead. However, Concordia responded with a scoring run, putting Aquinas behind 10-8. A combination of Cardinal errors and timely kills from Harper and Cutts helped the Saints regain control, jumping ahead 17-13. Keller once again sealed the deal with a decisive kill, securing a 25-19 victory in the second set.
An ace from Harper and a kill by Lauren Chioini propelled Aquinas to a quick 4-1 lead in the third set. Michelle Domey made an impact off the bench, delivering a block and a kill to extend the score to 7-2. The Saints kept the pressure on, with kills from Teachworth and Harper, along with an ace from Jenna Lee, widening the gap to 16-6. Mel Beachnau stepped in and added back-to-back kills, pushing the lead to 21-8. A service error from Concordia capped off the set, as Aquinas secured a 25-11 win and swept the match.
