Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Aquinas College Saints volleyball team has now won 32 sets in a row with their 18 match win streak. After their sweep over the Madonna Crusaders the Saints remain undefeated in conference and are now 26-1 (9-0).
Mallory Keller and Lauren Chioini kicked off the first set with one kill each, followed by a service ace from Bella Hommes to give the Saints an early 3-1 lead. The Crusaders found their momentum and went on a six-point spree to put the Saints in a 7-3 deficit. A service ace from Lydia Harper and another kill from Chioini helped bridge the gap 7-9. Jenna Lee then added two kills, fueling the Saints' momentum. Both teams fought hard for the lead late in the set, trading points as Harper snuck in a kill to tie it at 20-20. An errant overpass from Madonna set up Chioini for a powerful kill, putting Aquinas back on top, 22-20. The battle continued into extra points, with Lee tapping a crucial kill over the front line. An over-serve from Madonna sealed the first set for Aquinas, 26-24.
The second set opened with a lengthy rally, ending with a dunk from Harper to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Much like the first set, Madonna found their stride, pulling ahead 7-4. MU continued to push the envelope but a crucial block from Chioini tied the set 12-12. Kills from Lee and Cutts propelled Aquinas to a 19-16 advantage. Once again testing the waters Madonna climbed the ladder and tied the set 19-19. As the set reached its climax, Cutts and Chioini came through with a clutch block, giving the Saints a 24-23 edge. Julia Schweihofer's ace and a final block from Samee Teachworth and Lee sealed the second set for Aquinas, 28-26.
To start the third set, Madonna grabbed the first point but was quickly met by four kills from Keller that gave the Saints a 5-1 advantage. AQ was able to capitalize on errors from the Crusaders and extend its lead 14-8. A pair of kills from Keller and a kill from Harper extended the lead 19-14. Once again Chioini and Cutts came up big and put up a block to put the score at 22-18. Audrey Gill ends the final set of the night with a service ace, 25-19.Â
