Saints Seal WHAC Title on Senior Night

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Aquinas College Women's Volleyball team celebrated Senior Night with a sweep over Rochester Christian. This win extends their remarkable winning streak to 26 matches and secures their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) championship since 2018. It's also the first WHAC title under Coach Campbell's leadership. This victory maintains their perfect conference record at 16-0, underscoring their dominance throughout the season.

Aquinas 3, Rochester 0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-19)

Rochester Christian opened the night with a 3-1 edge over the Saints, but Samee Teachworth sparked a six-point rally for Aquinas, where she added four kills to her tally. Chloe Hogarth coined an ace, helping AQ claim a 10-7 lead. The Saints pressed forward with another five-point streak, initiated by a Michelle Domey kill and capped off by a powerful hit from Jenna Lee, stretching the lead to 15-8. Madison Lawson's kill and Bella Hommes's ace extended the Saints' advantage to 21-13. Jeralyn Hoppes entered with a kill that put AQ at set point, and a service error from the Warriors closed the first set at 25-18.

In the second set, Rochester Christian jumped ahead once more, but Mallory Keller quickly responded with two kills to bring AQ within one at 4-3. Lawson leveled the score at 5-5 with a forceful kill and a sharp service ace. The Saints surged with a four-point streak, started by Keller's kill and capped with an ace from Lydia Harper. AQ's momentum grew with a standout six-point run that included four consecutive aces from Lawson. Domey's kill and a final ace from Mel Beachnau wrapped up the set at 25-13.

The third set saw the Saints trailing 6-3 early on. However, errors from the Warriors and a timely kill by Domey helped AQ regain an 11-8 lead. Rochester Christian answered with a six-point streak, pulling ahead 15-12. Keller and Beachnau struck back, tipping the score to 17-16 in AQ's favor. With a determined push, the Saints pulled ahead, and Sarah Curtis's service ace clinched the match at 25-19, securing a well-earned sweep for AQ.

  • Aquinas dominated the aces, claiming 11 over RCU 5 

  • Lawson claimed five service aces, including a streak of four in a row
