Men's Hockey Earns the Best of the #16 Warriors

AQ falls by two with a late open net goal

Fort Wayne, Ind. — The Aquinas College men's hockey team traveled down to Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Saturday (Nov. 16) to take on the No. 16-rated Indiana Tech Warriors for game two of their two-part series. AQ made the Warriors work till the end, as IT stepped out in the end with an open net goal to secure the two point lead and win.

#16 Indiana Tech 6, Aquinas 4

The Warriors opened the night's scoring late in the first with just over five minutes remaining in the period. The Saints found a rebuttal in time via a power play sub nine minutes into the second. Xavier Erickson tallied the score with assists from Matt Denhartigh, and Arseniy Malyutin.

IT re-upped close to four minutes later making it 2-1. AQ then found an answer to even the playing field to two. This time Denhartigh finished the shot with passes from Alex Johnson, and Christian Look. Late into the second, Tech bounced back on a counter attack and collected an additional goal to regain the lead 3-2.

Indiana Tech went on to tally two goals in the third only to see AQ equal it out with two of their own. Erickson connected with a touch from Brody Traxler. Next Gavin Rozema made due with passes from Nick Dashner, and Alex Johnson via a power play. AQ now trailed by just one in the third. 

In an effort to extend this game into overtime with another tying goal. The Saints pulled the keeper and began the offensive onslaught. But IT managed to get out of the danger zone and collected an open net goal to cement their lead and the win.

No. 16 Indiana Tech defeated the Saints valiant comeback strides by a score of 6-4.

AQ will continue to push its boundaries by taking on tough competition as on Thursday (Nov. 21) the team will make way to Adrian, Michigan, to take on the No. 4-rated Adrian Bulldogs.
