Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Aquinas Saints women's basketball team continued their early-season slate with a tough matchup against Governors State on Saturday (Nov. 9) inside the Sturrus Center. Coming off a challenging game against #3 Indiana Wesleyan, Aquinas fought hard but ultimately fell short, with Governors State securing a 77-58 victory.
The game moves AQ to an 0-3 record while Governors State University Improves to 2-0.

Governors State took an early lead, though the Saints stayed competitive in the opening period. With aggressive defeence the Saints were able to hold the Jaguars to a narrow margin. A key piece of the first quarter that helped fuel the energy was
Leah French 's steal that was followed by a layup from
Claire Gregwer. This was followed by a series of crucial steals and rebounds, finishing the first quarter down by just three points at 20-17.
Offensively the Saints started the second quarter slow with only looks for the first two minutes. However, this didn't last long as Gregwer sunk a layup that was assisted by
Avery DePagter. Even with the effort of the team pushing ahead, the second quarter saw Aquinas outscored 19-11, Governors State stretched the lead further in the third, pulling away to a comfortable margin.
Despite the setback, Gregwer once again shone for Aquinas, achieving her third double-double of the season with an impressive 24-point game and 14 rebounds.
Paige Guernsey also contributed solidly, with seven points and seven rebounds. Aquinas showed resilience, particularly on the boards, as they outrebounded Governors State 44-34. However, turnovers proved costly, with the Saints committing 29 compared to Governors State's 13.
The Saints shot 34.6% from the field, including 30.8% from beyond the arc, and made 72% of their free throws. Governors State capitalized on these turnovers and fast breaks, amassing 31 points off turnovers and keeping the Saints at bay.
