Saints Surge Past Gray Wolves with Strong Offensive Performance

Sylvania, Ohio – The Aquinas women's basketball team traveled to Ohio today (Dec. 7) to battle against Lourdes University. The Saints had a dominant win over the Gray Wolves to earn a 4-1 record in conference and 5-5 overall.

Claire Gregwer set the tone early, scoring the Saints' first six points with help from two assists by Emily Cline, giving AQ a 6-3 edge over the Gray Wolves. Ashlyn Wilkes sank a three-pointer, and Brynn Reams followed with a layup to extend the lead to 11-3. Lourdes responded with an eight-point run, narrowing the gap to 16-13. However, Gregwer stepped up again, adding a three-pointer and a layup to restore the Saints' momentum, closing the first quarter ahead 21-13.

Cline scored on a layup, followed by two made free throws from Paige Guernsey, pushing the Saints to a 25-16 advantage. Isabel Reemsnyder added a jump shot, and back-to-back three-pointers from Wilkes and Gregwer extended Aquinas' lead to 20 points, closing out the first half.

Lourdes opened the second half with four quick points, but Guernsey sank two free throws, and Gregwer added a jumper to halt the run and extend the Saints' lead to 44-28. Both teams dug in defensively, resulting in a two-minute scoring drought broken by a Lourdes layup. Gregwer responded immediately with a layup of her own, pushing the score to 50-31. She continued to push late in the quarter, adding two more layups to close the period with the Saints leading 59-42.

Cline contributed two layups, and Reemsnyder drilled a three-pointer to extend the Saints' lead to 66-49. Guernsey and Wilkes followed up with jump shots, pushing Aquinas ahead 70-53. Although the Gray Wolves managed to add a few points of their own, Reemsnyder capped the run with a layup, securing a 74-55 win for AQ.
