Box Score Byron Center, Mich. — The Aquinas women's hockey team took the ice Friday evening (Feb. 16) against #13 Redhawks of Miami. The Redhawks had a demanding start as they controlled much of the contest. The Saints were able to challenge the playing field but came up short in the end. AQ unable to secure the win against #13 Miami.
This loss drops the Saints to a 3-17-1 (1-13) standing, while the Redhawks climb to 8-10-2.
Miami 3, Aquinas 1
The Redhawks were soaring in the first period as they had a total of 30 shots. Aquinas spent majority of their time on defense only coming up with three shots total. AQ did find a scattering of attempts and breakaways, but none were able to pierce the veil. Out of Miami's 30 shots only one was able to beat the Saints. As the horn sounded the period came to a 1-0 close.
The second period saw the Saints singing a different tune. This time AQ had their foot out in front and outshot Miami 18-10. Aquinas had come out with an offensive stride but were unable to secure a goal. The Redhawks went on to push their advantage to two as they made quick work of a power play. No further scoring occurred in the second.
The third and final period of regulation saw the Redhawks come back and retake offensive control of the contest. Miami shot 25 to AQ's 8. But Aquinas did need an increase of shots to tally a score as a set play found
Lauryn Wood. Wood buried the pass from
Maeva Lichtensteiger and
Alyssa Exline into the top right corner.
The Saints found new light with their goal, making it 2-1 with 17:00 minutes remaining. The clock continued to dwindle down, no team was able to find an answer to the opposing defense. In a last stitch effort, the Saints pulled the keeper for an extra set of hands. But the Redhawks snuffed out the hope by stealing a pass and landing a long range shot into the back of the net with just 16 seconds remaining.
The remainder of time came to expire as did the contest, 3-1.

In total, the Saints shot 29 to Miami's 55. Keeper
Kadynce Romijn faced 54 shots and only allowed 2, giving her a save rating of .9629.

AQ is back in action tomorrow once again with Miami. The contest will begin with a 4:30 p.m. puck drop at Southside Ice Arena. This will be the last game of the season for the Saints. A senior ceremony will commence before the game.
