Canton, Mich. — The Aquinas women's ice hockey team competed with the Cardinals of Concordia on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 2 & 3). The first contest saw the Saints keep up with the Cardinals for majority of the bout. However, CUAA managed to sick two last period goals giving the Cardinals a 4-2 victory. The second contest saw Concordia put up four more goals, while this time the Saints were unable to crack the defense, resulting in a 4-0 final for CUAA.
This series pushes AQ to a 3-14-1 overall season standing, while Concordia moves to 8-12.
Concordia 4, Aquinas 2
Concordia recorded the first goal of the contest just under five minutes in. Five minutes later, the Saints were knocking on Concordia's door. This time it was
Maeva Lichtensteiger leading the charge as she collected a series of passes from
Jenna Blackwell and
McKenna Kaczor. Lichtensteiger pounded on the door and rang the bell, but no one came to the call as her shot went unanswered, granting Lichtensteiger the first goal of her collegiate hockey career.
The remainder of the period went scoreless.
The second period did not see a goal for eight minutes. Just past the mark the Cardinals netted their second goal, once again placing them above the Saints. But the Saints continued course and stamped their rebuttal in the form of a power play five minutes later. This time
Lauryn Wood struck true with assists from Blackwell and
Kylie Rancilio.
The remainder of this period also went scoreless.
Both teams entered the final period of regulation with hopes and determination of out pacing the other. But seven minutes in CUAA capitalized on a power play. And just over two minutes later added an additional goal.
The Saints attempted to rally and regroup, but, soon enough, the final horn blew to signify the end of the contest. Finalizing the scoreline at 4-2 for the Cardinal of Concordia.

The second evening contest was all CUAA. The Saints pressed on but were unable to surpass the Cardinal defenses. Concordia recorded a single goal in both the first and second period. CUAA then recorded two additional goal in the third.
AQ kept pace in the first contest but couldn't keep up in the second.
