Mishawaka, Ind. – The Aquinas women's lacrosse team had an early start this morning (Apr. 6) on the road against Bethel. The score remained close throughout the entirety of the contest, but the Pilots ultimately got the best of the Saints on their home turf.
This result moves AQ to 2-3 in conference play while Bethel improves to 4-3.
Bethel 15, Aquinas 11
The Saints jumped out to an early lead after solid defense and unassisted goals from
Olivia Bowen and
Kennadie Minerich. With 6:38 on the clock, Bethel found paydirt for the first time and then equalized just 26 seconds later.
Trinity Reynoso scored an unassisted goal of her own, but Bethel countered just 16 seconds later in what was gearing up to be a shootout. Minerich scored again with under one minute to go, but the Pilots, once again, found a rebuttal before the buzzer to end the action-packed first quarter 4-4.
Minerich netted her early hat trick just three minutes into the second quarter to give AQ the lead back. However, Bethel managed to put together a bit of a run throughout the remainder of the quarter. BU scored five unanswered goals to take a 9-5 advantage into the locker rooms.
Shaylin Rings,
Brianna Trepins, and Reynoso all found the back of the net in the third frame, but the Pilots continued to have an answer for every goal. The Saints would outscore Bethel 3-2 in the fourth quarter, but that five-goal run in the second quarter proved to be the difference.
By the Numbers
Minerich ended the game with three goals and three assists for six total points. This is her fifth hat trick this season and her sixth time with at least six points.
Reynoso also ended the game with a hat trick – her first of the 2024 season. Rings (2),
Katelyn Hall (1), Bowen (1), and Trepins (1) all celebrated goals as well.
Kennedy Stilson recorded 11 saves today for a .423 save percentage. Bethel only recorded four saves on 15 shots today, giving Stilson the goaltending edge over Bethel's counterpart.
Up Next
