Ottawa Lake, Mich. – Aquinas returned to Legacy Golf Course in Ottawa Lake today, this time with the women's team competing in the Lourdes Fall Invitational. The Saints competed in a single-round tournament in a field of 13 teams. Aquinas faced tough conditions all day but managed to hang right around the top of the field. When the scorecards were submitted, the Saints found themselves in third place (+60), just eight strokes away from first place.
Siena Heights claimed the top spot with a score of 342 (+52). Cleary was the only other team to top the Saints, placing just two strokes lower than AQ.
Zoey Quinn and
Jayda Kerns both cracked the top ten individually. Quinn finished tied for seventh with a score of 85 (+13). Kerns was just behind her tied for ninth with a score of 86 (+14). This is how the full Aquinas leaderboard broke down:

Here is what head coach John Konya had to say about the team's performance: "The scores aren't indicative of how solid the girls played today. The conditions were pretty extreme, so all of the scores were high. We were only a few strokes out of first, but it was maybe the first time they realized there was a lot of talent on this team and they don't need to play perfect golf, but smart golf.
I have been saying it for a while, but today I think that we turned a corner and they're starting to believe it. None of them shot near what they are capable of shooting in this event, but they kept their heads in it, despite the conditions. I'm happy for them for staying with it."

The Saints are back in action next week (Sept. 23-24) to compete in the WHAC Fall Preview. The Fall Preview will take place in Augusta, Michigan at Stonehenge Golf Course.
