Adrian, Mich. – The No. 4-ranked Aquinas women's soccer team took to the road on Wednesday (Sept. 25) night in the battle of the Saints. After scoring 17 goals in the last two games, AQ's red-hot offense was primed to once again against Siena Heights. #4 Aquinas 8, Siena Heights 1
The AQ Saints started the scoring early when
Madison Slezinski found the back of the net for the second consecutive match in the seventh minute. Just three minutes later,
Maeva Lichtensteiger scored once again this season for AQ to double the score.
Aquinas' first-half scoring party did not stop there as Slezinski celebrated another goal in the 16th minute after a pass from
Sydney Shenk. Slezinski was not done quite yet, as she netted an incredible hat trick in just 25 minutes, this time with the helper coming from
Marie-Louise Abild.
The first-half demolition derby continued in the 30th minute when
Lauren Niblett was in the right place to pick up a rebound goal after Lichtensteiger's shot. Just three minutes later, Shenk nearly made the score six-nill but put her shot off the crossbar. Just seconds later,
Savannah Reese had a shot saved, Lichtensteiger had a shot saved, but then Shenk found a goal for a six-goal lead. The Shenk goal was the final goal of the first half, giving the Saints a commanding lead.
Following the halftime intermission, there was a brief lull in the scoring until Shenk scored her second goal of the contest in the 60th minute after another Lichtensteiger assist. Siena Heights finally found a response a couple of minutes later, but Shenk quieted the hometown crowd with her second hat trick in as many games one minute and 13 seconds later.
Those goals would conclude the scoring for the game as the contest ended with the Saints ahead 8-1.
