#12 Saints Sweep Crusaders and Warriors

AQ is Now 22-1 (7-0)

Rochester Hills, Mich. - The No.12 Saints remain undefeated in conference play with their victory over Rochester Christian. AQ took the first and third set swiftly, limiting the Warriors to nine points in the first set and 10 points in the second set. The Saints continued to build more energy in the second match, sweeping Grace Lakes Christian. AQ is now 22-1 (7-0) on the season. 

Aquinas 3, Rochester Christian 0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-10) 

Mallory Keller set the tone early in the first set, scoring the Saints' first four points, followed by a powerful kill from Madison Lawson and a service ace from Lydia Harper, giving Aquinas a strong 7-2 lead. Aquinas continued to apply pressure, going on a five-point run highlighted by a block from Jeralyn Hoppes and Samee Teachworth, with Keller adding two more kills to extend the lead to 17-7. AQ closed out the set with a dominant six-point surge, featuring two kills from Lauren Chioini and another ace from Harper, sealing the first set 25-9.

The Saints opened the second set by capitalizing on early errors from the Warriors and a service ace from Bella Hommes, jumping ahead 4-2. Harper added a kill and set up Chioini for two more, pushing Aquinas' lead to 9-5. Rochester Christian responded with increased energy, exchanging points and narrowing the gap to 14-11. However, Keller stepped up in the closing moments, delivering three crucial kills to secure the set for AQ, 25-20.

In the final set, Aquinas quickly found their rhythm, racing to an 8-1 lead with two more kills from Keller and another service ace from Hommes. Jenna Lee added an ace of her own, while Teachworth and Harper delivered key blocks to extend the lead to 22-8. Keller closed out the match with two more powerful kills, securing the sweep with a 25-10 victory.

By the Numbers 

  • Keller dominated the attack scoring 19 kills, hitting .306

  • The Saints limited the Warriors to ten points or under in two sets 

  • Harper hit a .500 and Hoppes hit .444

  • Hommes claimed 14 digs and Lee trailed behind with 11

 

Aquinas 3, Grace Lakes Christian 0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-14) 

Great Lakes Christian took advantage of early errors from the Saints, putting Aquinas in a 4-1 deficit. However, the Saints quickly responded with a dominant 14-point run. During this stretch, Reagan Doctor delivered two kills, and Julia Schweihofer added five service aces, pushing Aquinas ahead 15-4. Cece Pelak and Sarah Curtis contributed aces of their own to extend the lead to 22-7. Mel Beachnau laid down the final kill of the set to close it out 25-13. 

Building on momentum from the first set, Beachnau opened the second set with a strong kill, helping the Saints jump to a 3-0 lead. Audrey Gil found her rhythm, adding two kills, while Pelak chipped in with one, extending Aquinas' advantage to 10-3. The Saints rallied again with an unanswered five-point run, featuring two more kills from Gil and two service aces from Taylor Reha. A key block from Doctor and Gil sealed the second set in dominant fashion, 25-9.

Great Lakes Christian kept the score close early in the third set, trading points with the Saints before Tess Griffith fired off two kills, followed by a strike from Arianna Black, pushing the score to 7-3. Gil then added two more kills, and Curtis delivered another service ace to extend the lead to 12-4. Maddie Burke snuck in a kill toward the end, and Gil sealed the match with a final kill, securing a 25-14 victory and the sweep for Aquinas.

By the Numbers 

  • Gil claimed 10 kills and hit .643

  • Burke and Kami Morse both hit 1.000 

  • Schweihofer claimed six service aces 

  • The Saints hit .778 in the second set and hit .400 overall
