Valorant collects second win on the season

Grand Rapids, Mich. — The Aquinas College Valorant Team faced off with Defiance in the online arena on Monday (Mar. 17).

Aquinas 2, Defiance 1

The Saints started the night off strong pushing out to a 6-0 lead to start the first leg of competition. Defiance managed a rally and brought the contest to 7-5 at the half. The Bees kept their push and squeezed a narrow win away from AQ in the first by a score of 13-11.

Even with a difficult turnaround loss in game one, AQ steadied itself and began to plan its way to victory in game two. Being able to see through DC's plans, the Saints weeded out the Bees and snuffed the opposition on defense. The team also found success by shutting down the top player on Defiance. With grand technical prowess and precision, AQ equaled the game score by taking the leg 13-4.

AQ had confidently battled its way back to an even standing and was once again on the verge of a program victory. The Saints' play became amplified in the third as the team was able to decipher Defiance's movement and game plan before the Bees were able to unfold it. Defiance was a story that the Saints had already read before as AQ predicted nearly every move the Bees attempted to make. Aquinas neared a flawless game as the team was on top 13-1, earning their second win of the competitive season.

Here is what Volunteer Coach Morgan Ferguson "Overall, the matches were great and super exciting and fun to watch. The difference in our gameplay from game one to game three was immense and if we keep up the momentum, I could see us taking games off of higher-ranked teams. One of our main issues was communication and we have improved tremendously throughout the semester."
