The Aquinas women's volleyball team traveled to across Grand Rapids for a non-conference bout on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 1) against the Tigers of Grace Christian. The Tigers could not keep pace with the Saints as AQ swept the match 3-0 to take the victory.

Aquinas was able to win tightly contested sets en route to the win by scores of 27-25, 25-22, and 25-18. The sweep advances the Saints to a 4-5 overall record and loss moves Grace Christian to 2-1 overall.

AQ held the advantage in nearly ever statistical category, leading in kills (44-24), hitting percentage (.317-.049), assists (40-23), and blocks (7-1). GCU had a 6-5 advantage in aces and a 44-36 edge in digs, but it did not stop the Saints from coming out on top.

Kenzi Dobosiewicz had a career match, totaling a career-high 15 kills to go along with her .467 hitting percentage. Dobosiewicz also contributed seven digs and one block assist in the match. Claire Phillips notched her first nine kills of her collegiate career with a .400 hitting percentage as well as Melissa Beachnau gaining her first seven kills of her freshman campaign with two solo blocks.

Peyton Goschka helped out with eight kills of her own, while gaining three of the five serving aces for the Saints and seven digs. Chloe Mitchell and Cassie Sustrich split setting duties throughout the match with Mitchell collecting 19 assists and Sustrich dishing out 17 of her own. Jennifer Johnson led the way with eight digs for AQ and also added a serving ace. Breanna Poole totaled three solo blocks, which led the team, to go along with four kills.

The Saints will begin their conference portion of the schedule on Wednesday (Sept. 8) as AQ travels to Ann Arbor, Michigan to face Concordia. The match against the Cardinals is set to start at 7:00 PM.
